The Rules of Writing-Parts of Speech-Preposition 2
Published: June 04, 2013

Are there different types of prepositions?

Prepositions belong to different groups, although textbooks don’t adhere to particular divisions. The most common groupings are:

Place: at, on, and in.

Location: above, beneath, and around.

Movement: to, from, and toward.

Time: before and since.

Then there are prepositions paired with nouns, adjectives, and verbs. Prepositions have the unique trait of latching to other words. Usage fuses them so they become one word for communication.
